Default Estonians in the 19th century

I have a description of Estonian (Chukhontsy) appearance from a book published in 1825, but I'm not sure if I can trust this description.

Are there any photos showing "typical" Estonians from the 19th century? Of course I mean ethnic Estonians, not all people in Estonia.

Can be paintings too. And also - how did Estonians change, how do modern Estonians compare with those from the 1800s?

I imagine the only noticeable change in Estonia would have been from the Soviet era, when they removed thousands of Estonian men from the country and moved Russians in. One of my best friends is from Estonia, and he tells me that the left over Russians living there are still looked down upon.

Soviet era is too new to have any influence on the average Joe ethnic Estonian. Estonians tend to keep themselves separate from the local russkies.

Most Estonians I have known had Russian relatives in their extended families.

Sure, like 25% of the Estonian population are Russians, who emigrated to Estonia not so long ago. Russians marry Russians, Estonians marry Estonians, we keep separate from each other, because our worlds are too different. At least as long as the Russians have not integrated into the Estonian society, and keep living in their ghetto ecosystem. That might chance in the future tho.

I've personally known Estonians who had Russian relatives in their extended families and a couple 'he is Estonian and she's a Russian'.

MDS plot from A Genome-Wide Analysis of Populations from European Russia Reveals a New Pole of Genetic Diversity in Northern Europe study : http://www.plosone.org/article/info%...one.0058552#s5
confirms contemporary Estonian population is mixed with Slavs.
