Keep in mind that art is a process. Artists experiment in many different styles before they find their niche.

I'm not skeptical of the rainbows. I think they represent a vision, a dream of what he wanted the world to be, or perhaps of how he saw the world at the time. I think he was a beautiful and sensitive soul before he changed into the maniac he was at the end. No person out there is 100% good or bad. His art reveals a side of him which was not seen. Perhaps in the end, as a failed artist, he produced in the only way he could by death, war and chaos.

Some of his art dabbles in the styles he came to detest in the end.

Who knows what went wrong. Only he can answer that question and the rest is all speculation. We only know the outcome, which was an atrocity.

Most adjectives given to him are complete bullshit. He was not a psychopath to start with, I don't know of a psychopath that loves and respects animals as he did. Should start from there, then the rest of the official story that has been told will start filtering out.

He was an okay painter. A lot better artist than a military strategist.

Perhaps not a psychopath. But fundamentally something was very, very wrong.

I'd say Stalin was just as guilty for that. Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, annexation of the Baltic states and East Poland (simultaneously with Hitler invading from the West) etc.

Yeah, that's kinda interesting that his art is impressionistic-shifted, while Reich art was strongly classicistic.

Prior to the NationalSocialist rise to power, everything was very...very wrong. When NS gained power, everything became very...very right (at least for Germany), so excluding the Holocaust tale, I think he did quite awesomely overall. Not everyone can pull off an effort where you kick some 3 superpowers' arses at the same time for a number of years. Almost winning the war, too.

Germany and Reactionary (Fascist forces) was the only power standing in the way preventing communism spreading into Western Europe. The real winner of the war was Communism, the internationalist type, the type that goes hand in hand with international Capitalism. So it is a matter of views whether you retain Hitler's efforts as twisted or heroic.

He may or may not have failed at art school, but he failed as an artist. It is an extremely heavy blow for an artist to be a failed artist. You have literally poured out your heart and soul onto that piece of paper. You have laid yourself vulnerable for the world to see. The rejection of an artists art, is a rejection of the entire person as a whole. You have given your soul, only to have it thrown back in your face. Not only once, but many, many times over and over again.

I can understand how it can make a person become resentful, especially artists who are of a particular temperament.

I steer away from political discussions, but all I can and will say to this is that I believe people have a very romanticised view of what National Socialism in Germany was all about. The only people who can really comment on National Socialism were those who lived under it, and they all have one foot in the grave already. The rest is all speculation.
