The area of Westminster I live in (Maida Vale) was named after Maida in Italy,
following a second victory win over the French in the region of Maida by the British.
Waterloo train station in London was named after the British defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo.
When the Eurotunnel and high-speed undersea trains was built between England and France,
the Eurostar entry point for England was located at Waterloo in London,
so French citizens arriving to Great Britain by Eurostar would arrive at London's large Waterloo Station!
The Eurostar station has now been moved to St. Pancras International station in London
following an £800 million restoration of the historic station.

Following tensions between the Spanish and UK governments,
HMS Westminster, a British warship, was sent to the British Oversea's Territory of the Rock of Gibraltar
as a warning to Spain to back-off from ideas of taking Gibraltar.




Following threats from the colonised nation of Argentina's government
regarding oil drilling operations for billions of barrels of oil
in the British Falklands Islands,
the British sent the worlds most advanced anti-aircraft warship to guard the islands
and also a nuclear powered submarine to stay close to the coast of Argentina
to deter the Argentines from starting another war with Great Britain over the Falkland Islands.

The Spanish authorities tried to enter into British waters and were quickly chased out.
The Spanish government has since apologised.

but a recent video clip below shows the British Royal Navy saving a Spanish fisherman against pirates.

The American and British allied air forces bombed Dresden in Germany,
which was targeted due to German military bases in the area,
after the bombings on citizens in London and on other citizens in UK cities and towns,
and after the RMS Lusitania ship was torpedoed by a German submarine
off the south coast of Ireland on 7th May 1915.

The Lusitania was the worlds largest passenger ship in her time
and she was Britain's new luxurious Flagship ship after the Titanic had sunk.

2000 American and British tourists (including children) were travelling on-board
the luxurious Lusitania ship from New York to Liverpool,
and over 1100 of them were killed or drowned,
nearly 3 years after Titanic sunk in April 1912.

The RMS Lusitania was named after the ancient Roman province of Lusitania, which is known as Portugal today,
and Portugal is a nation that is England's oldest ally.

HMHS Britannic was the third, last-built,
and largest member of the White Star Line's Olympic class of vessels.
She was the sister ship of RMS Olympic and RMS Titanic,
but the Britannic ship was shaken by an explosion near Greece and sunk during World War I.
The Olympic ship had a longer lifespan than her two sister ships Britannic and Titanic.

Titanic's sister ship RMS Olympic also encountered a u-boat while
on a trooping voyage carrying American troops to France in 1918.
In the early hours of 12 May 1918, while en route for France with US troops
under the command of Captain Hayes,Olympic sighted a surfaced U-boat 500 m (1,600 ft) ahead.
Her gunners opened fire at once, and she turned to ram the submarine,
which immediately crash dived to 30 m (98 ft) and turned to a parallel course.
Almost immediately afterwards Olympic struck the submarine
just aft of her conning tower and her port propeller sliced through U-103's pressure hull.
The crew of U-103 blew her ballast tanks, scuttled and abandoned the submarine.
Olympic returned to Southampton with at least two hull plates dented
and her prow twisted to one side, but not breached.

The Americans were not involved in the war with Germany before the Lusitania was torpedoed by Germans,
and neither before Pearl Harbour was attacked by the Japanese,
who also bombed Darwin in Australia and tortured Korean people to death.
