    Default Why does some music from Apulia, Italy sound like music from the Aegean islands?

    Not exactly, but often very similar. You don't find this same type of music in the rest of southern Italy, and in Greece it's a particularly Aegean sound.

    Compare these Apulian songs in instrument and sound;

    To this Greek song from the islands;

    Because the Salento received a lot of Greek influence from the Early Middle Ages to the 17th century, mostly through Greek immigration.

    But I mean why is it so similar to Aegean island music in particular? And not as much other Greek styles?

    Because of population movements (migrations) and cultural interactions/exchanges.

    Another example. Sounds fairly Apulian. Almost a bit Celtic also.
