They had only two friends on the Mainland: us and the Portuguese and neither of which seem to be very much focussed on the UK at the moment. Let's not forget that when Britain sought to join the EEC nobody wanted anything to do with them except for the Dutch and it's only thanks to us hammering down on the French, the Belgians and the West Germans that they could join at all. Let's not forget how De Gaulle literally reduced MacMillan to tears when his pleas to be allowed in were answered with a firm "Non" and a veto. Mon Général ? You were right and all of us should have listened.

If they want isolation than we should help them: brick up the Chunnel, cancel direct flights and only trade under WTO regulations. In fact: put visa's on them and since they will also lose access to Europol and the criminal data sharing network as well as the European arrest warrant - their position will become even more isolated. Why not really help them and close all embassies and have the Brits conduct their diplomatic business with European countries through Switzerland ? Then they can have their peace and quiet. All joint British-European firms should be broken up immediately and the continental part nationalised by their respective countries.

The Dutch coast guard is mostly staffed from people from the coastal provinces anyway. Hollanders too have Frisian blood.

Yeah they do since many Frisians got assimilated to the Frankish realm and became the Dutch later on while those that retained their language became the Frisians.

I predict Britain will seek to rejoin the EU in thirty years time, as the realities of globalisation, diplomacy, trade and geography gradually sink in. Besides, some polls suggest that, had a referendum been conducted today, remainers may well win due to a mixture of both demographics (the young are much more pro-EU than the old, and the point is the latter by definition die off) and also changing opinions anyway.

Then I think we Mainlanders should demand a referendum as well. And vote NO and it really wouldn't surprise me if the Irish would also reject a British plea to be taken back into the EU.

Hmm, be careful what you wish for. As quite a few Dutch commentators themselves have said, without the countervailing influence of the British, chances are the EU will become much more corporatist and much more French/German-dominated.
