Lots of people (film critics included) suck it up to old movies beacuse they are old and nothing else. It is very much a form of pseudo-intellectualism.
I'm not saying that modern movies are better, it's not about the modern film technology, CGI, etc; and an old movie might be especially enjoyable for how it contrasts with modern ones, or simply because it's a good movie

But sometimes, on the acting level, it's like:

Titanic (1997)




vs

A Night To Remember (1958)

"muh, it's the fifties and we act out a ship's sinking as we do an ordinary construction foremen meeting"

Very much so agree...one sees this sort of dogmatic pseudo-intellectualism in film, music, about everything..

I think it’s just pop culture. Just like how these kids are wearing 80s band t-shirts and when you ask them what their favorite song is, they can’t name one lol
