There are 10 million more women in Russia than there are men. Russia has the opposite problem to China where the number of males is much greater than the number of females.
I don't know why there's millions more females than men in Russia though; maybe it's just that more females were born there than males.

I think it's because of the very widespread alcoholism in Russia. Millions of Russians die prematurely due to excessive drinking. Imperial policy also cost the lives of many young Russians. I have heard that for many women in Russia is very difficult to find a reasonable partner for life.

The difference between men/women in Russia is on the older class of age. A woman have ten more year in life expectancy than a man in Russia.
At birth the sex ratio 1.05 male/female http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Russia. Maybe due to bad condition of life and the emigration of the most educate men, it's dificult for a woman to find a "decent man". But honestly, i think it's mostly a legend to serve internet swindle or dating website.
