The British have undoubtedly contributed more towards modern civilisation than any other nationality.

The contributions made by the British include;

-The Industrial Revolution
-Modern Democracy
-Railways
-The Jet engine
-Television
-The pencil
-The first modern computer
-Penicillin
-The Flush toilet
-The refrigerator

The British Empire was the largest Empire IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD covering 22.43% of the world:



Britain's "daughter state" the USA is the ONLY country universally recognised as a Superpower today. The English language is the lingua franca of the world, for instance it dominates the internet:



So why are the British superior to the continentals (and everybody else)?

So why are the British superior to the continentals (and everybody else)?

America is going downhill though and I can speak on experience. But I wouldnt disagree with this. Everyone hates us for our achievements.

Because they run out of firewood and had to use coal, which then powered their industrial revolution. necessity is the mother of invention.

By 1900s they were pretty much in decline though and today it is crazy to say Britain is above Germany. Deutschalnd uber alles.

Anyway that era is finishing now sadly, Britain powered the fossil fuel revolution, it led to great wealth but also we are now reaching the peak of production, soon all those cities built in this time, "modernity", will be relics in a desert, like Temples in Cambodia today, or the ruins of Babylon which you can almost not identify. Or like Rome which went from a million people to a village taken by farms, with 10.000 people in the medieval era.

For good or for bad, it will happen like to every civilization...they rise and they fall :/

I'd agree with the exception of Italy & France both have a much longer history of invention. Britains started mostly in the 1700s and without the Renaissance the enlightenment and Britain/Germany's invention history would have turned out quite differently.

Yes, it is all relative, the ancient Greeks and Romans are large contributors to any future success made after their time. No invention could have been made without them. Other nations and civilisations made great contributions too, the anceint civilisations of the middle east, ancient India (numbers), the medieval arab world, the Italian states, France and Germany, not to forget the USA, but you consider that yours...
The British size is only a few percet greater than the Mongol Empire. Further more, you had an easier job expanding, considering the good position of ports in the open ocean. Great Britain had no mainland foes which made it even easier. You expanded upon native tribes which were thousands of years less developed than nations of the old world. Tell me please how the British army bravely faced the Zulus' spears withtheir canons and gatling guns. All of those achievments and the British "superiority" are relative, depending on time and place, no true measure of "superiority".
