What is that wild amateur video for? It only shows Britain's mark of colonialism, it doesn't prove anything in my last comment wrong. The English language domination in the world is certainly from American influence on the world....just look at the U.S. Dollar is the international currency. American influence is evident. Look at Spanish, Spain conquered many nations around the world, but Spanish is not the international language, English is. It's from America's influence on the world.

Yes but it was Britain who planted the seed by establishing its empire all across the planet leaving very few countries untouched. After the empire disintegrated, United States continued to spread English with itss strong economy and huge immigration. The internet pretty much sealed the deal as English became the international language of business.

Yes, but you can't credit Britain for English being the international language today, it was the doings of the U.S.. Sure, Britain may have lent to the creation of the U.S. (not responsible for it though), but the U.S. by far is not an extension of England when most of the people are not English and the culture is not English, rather has some influences from Britain, mixed with other influences. But this has nothing to do with of why English is dominant in the world, it's from American influence. And the U.S. brought the world the internet, so there you go, you said it yourself.

I'm surely not a liberal and I give credit to the English empire for it's once dominant history, but IMHO, there were greater empires like the Roman Empire and others throughout antiquity. The British empire was similar to the Spanish empire IMHO.

I'm surely not a liberal and I give credit to the English empire for it's once dominant history, but IMHO, there were greater empires like the Roman Empire and others throughout antiquity. The British empire was similar to the Spanish empire IMHO.

Very few people know that dollar (or real de a ocho) was created by Spain in 1497 and became the first international currency, and that US dollar (as well Yuan, Yen and Canada dollar) was based upon the Spanish dollar, which remained legal in the US until 1867. Hell, even the $ symbol is a representation of the Heracles coloms:

Well the Roman empire, just like the British empire, was a precursor for many things today, so it's relevant to the debate. It's not about Southern Eurocentrism, but a real fact that the Roman empire was a crucial puzzle piece of history that has had tremendous influence on our world today. Also the Greeks were influential too, they brought us one of our most important elements of our societies in the west, democracy. Look at the importance of the Spanish empire that introduced Europe to items like corn, tomatoes, potatoes, tobacco, chocolate, vanilla, etc. all items you use in your everyday life. Southern Europeans have had great influence on the world as well, the Anglos didn't do it all by themselves.
