    I see.

I know this Jewish guy from Washington Heights whose ancestry is directly from Central Europe. He has blue eyes and pale skin but his features are semitic-influenced or whatever that means. In other words, he looks Jewish.

The poster Longwon (or something like that) does look NYC Jewish too.

What about the ones from Brooklyn Heights and the Upper West Side?

From my experience Brooklyn seems to have more of those Ortodox Jews if you know what I mean but that's just me.

Did his ancestors immigrate from Germany in the 1930s? A much higher proportion of German Jews who immigrated to Washington Heights in the 1930s were Orthodox than the German Jews (likely around 100,000) who immigrated in the 19th century praticulary to the German Triangle region of the Midwest where many gentile Germans also settled.
Unknown European is a member here from Illinois who is entirely descended from Yekke Reform Jewish settlers from the 19th century. He ephasizes how much these Reform Jews assimilated with German Americans. The Yekkes in Washington Heights on the other hand are still a robust community.

Jews elsewhere in New York City are mostly Eastern European and immigrated late 19th to early 20th century. Washington Heights on the otherhand is where many Orthodox Jews who fled Nazi Germany in the 1930s settled.

He did mention Hungary one time but I can't remember the other country.
The part of the Heights he lives is mainly Jewish from what I've noticed. Usually in the neighborhood, west of Broadway is mostly white. The upper you go along Fort Washington, the most Jewish it gets. I lived in 171 and this avenue almost behind the Prebysterian Hospital so I know. My building was like 2/3 white back then. I was there just yesterday seeing somebody, lol.
