    Default Turkish historian’s TV show fined for insulting Kardashian, audience.

    A Turkish TV show has been fined 600,000 Turkish Liras by the country’s media watchdog after a popular historian used insulting words against the audience and Hollywood celebrity Kim Kardashian, according to daily Milliyet.

    Murat Bardakçı broadcast the French song “Sur Ma Vie” by Charles Aznavur while appearing live on a TV program on the private Habertürk station. However, when he read the audience’s reactions via social media, he noticed outrage at his playing “an Armenian song.”

    “They say, ‘How dare you broadcast an Armenian song?’ Whoa, come on, that [song] is French. Okay, you don’t listen to it really, the song is in French, and the guy is Armenian," Bardakçı said during the show.

    "You are stupid and an idiot. Why do you look at Kim Kardashian’s butt? She is Armenian, too,” he added.

    The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) said Bardakçı used an insulting manner while reacting to audience’s criticism over the broadcasting of Aznavur’s song, and fined Habertürk 600,000 liras for Bardakçı’s statements.

    The watchdog said Bardakçı’s words “did not respect human honor and were insulting,” and also included slang.

    It's not an insulting Kardashian. He's saying when they admire her rump they don't stop and think it's an Armenian rump. The only insult made was referring to others as stupid/idiot. It's not worth a fine.

    Yeap, he just insulted the racist audience. There are many uneducated and racist people even they think a french song is in Armenian

    But of course RTÜK says the fine was for insulting Kim Kardashian instead their big lie; they fined because Murat Bardakçı insulted the racists.

    Very True! The unjustified 600,000 Liras Fine was directed against Murat, because he tried to hold audience members accountable for their racism and Anti-Armenian Hysteria. I wasn't aware of this, but it doesn't really surprise me.

    By the Way, Turkey's infamous Article 301 is a prime example of censorship in Turkey. The legislation of Article 301 has proclaimed it an imprisonable offense against to insult "Turkishness." Another words, stating that the Armenian Genocide was a premeditated crime against humanity could result in serious legal reprisals, from the Republic of Turkey. Anyone who criticizes Ataturk, to bring him down to the level of a human being, instead of a national god, etched in stone, could also find themselves facing an imprisonable offense, based upon the guidelines of Article 301.

Another words, publicly stating that Armenians Genocide was a premeditated crime against humanity could result in serious legal reprisals, from the Republic of Turkey. That's true but as I know that rule is changed, so it's not pretty easy to go into prison because of 301 anymore I don't know if it's still enough for now but...

    Following the murder of Hrant Dink, Turkish deputy prime minister and foreign minister Abdullah Gül declared, "With its current state, there are certain problems with article 301. We see now that there are changes which must be made to this law."

    On April 30, 2008, article 301 was amended by the Parliament of Turkey, with the following changes:

    replacement of the word "Turkishness" with the phrase "the Turkish Nation" (so "denigration of Turkishness" became "denigration of the Turkish Nation");
    reduction of the maximum penalty from three years to two;
    removal of the special provision aggravating the punishment for denigration when committed by a Turkish citizen in another country;
    requiring permission of the justice ministry to file a case. The permission procedure of Article 301 will be carried out by the Directorate General of the Criminal Affairs of the Ministry of Justice where competent judges are seconded to the Ministry. Even if a criminal investigation is launched upon the permission of the Minister of Justice, the prosecutor still has discretionary power to decide not to prosecute.

    Thank You for providing the actual updated legal definition of Article 301, as it stands now. It's true that the Turkish Government has made a genuine effort to reform the article, and it makes sense, because activities in Diyarbakir have indicated that public demonstrations, among Kurds, for the commemoration of the Armenian Genocide, are permissible and acceptable under the watch of the Turkish Government.

    Criticizing Ataturk's integrity, or proposing that the Armenian Genocide was a crime against humanity could still be imprisonable offenses, if directed against Turkey's reputation, even under the revised definition of the article; however, it looks like a general improvement has been accomplished, with the revision of Article 301.

    I agree with it. By the tolerance of free-speech about ethnicities, religions and history are more free than the past.

    However some foundations of government and its people find a way to give a fine or some secret groups try to terrorize and complot.
