    Default US Census

So I got my in mail today and just filled it out. I found it rather interesting that it didn't ask what ethnicity I am. Just what race I was. It was like are you white, black or Native American, Asian or whatever then elaborate what Asian ethnicity you are (if you picked Asian). I assume the one I got was short-form? If that is the case, then when do we get our "long-form" or will we even get one?

They used to send out a long form to 1 out of every 10 households.

This year is different, no long form that asks about ethnicity/ancestry. Instead, there is some Community form that will be sent out every 5 or so years. I can't remember what the official name of that thing is at the moment...go find it.

But this is actually better for determining the ethnic population of the US since it will be more frequent than the Census.

We were talking about this at work last night too after we filled out our census forms. Asians, Natives and Hispanics get to delineate their ethnicity as specifically as they'd like, but we're all shuffled into a monolithically "white" box. Methinks the census folks should read some physical anthropology texts, since they completely confuse the question of race and ethnicity. How cool would it be for the form to list all of the races (Caucasoid, Mongoloid, Australoid, Congoid and Capoid) and then to allow you to list an ethnicity under that. Now how do I get that job...

I was surprised to find they did not ask about religion.

There have been these ads in Spanish on buses, saying "Spanish speakers" should be stand up en masse and be counted in order to create something in the next 20 years. This is a despicable endeavour of social engineering if I ever saw it. This should be a wake up call for English speaking white people to stand up and be counted.
