You take it too personally (although it's understandable), i'd rather a Bulgarian than some other types. A friend of mine in school was Bulgarian, decent guy. To be honest most of us here want much less immigration overall, and for the ones able to be integrated well to integrate, and for our identity and other things to stop being denigrated by the establishment. I'm sure you'd want something similar if the tables were turned.

Irish actually historically have been perceived by English as some kind of savage barbarians that can't be civilized. Even in America Irish were discriminated due to their origins.

Intellectually if you're referring to technical knowledge, yes, they are. Philosophical and moral intellect that's a whole new game and I actually think the Irish come out better.
Culturally, I could very well make the case that Britain is the worst country in the whole continent. After all, mercantocracy, speculation, consumerism and globalizing trends are their doing more than anyone else's. Specially when you factor in the notion that the US is their bastard child
