THE LAKE ON THE OCEAN

With 3.4 square kilometres, Lake Sřrvágsvatn is the largest lake in the Faroe Islands, and is nicknamed "the ocean lake" because of its geomorphological peculiarity.
If looked at in certain positions you can see it with a particular optical illusion, which makes the lake seem directly above the Atlantic Ocean. It is very close to the ocean, but its surface is actually about 40 meters above sea level, surrounded by a higher cliff that prevents it from emptying completely into the ocean.
At the end of the lake is the impressive Břsdalafossur waterfall, which represents the only outlet of the water basin on the ocean.
