It was recently announced in the national media that a Dutch company has pushed the UK out of the Interrail ticket scheme, which means tourists and travellers to Europe will no longer be able to use the ticket scheme in the UK.

The Eurostar high speed undersea rail services to London's St. Pancras International will be still be covered, but the removal of the interrail ticket scheme could affect future tourists from visiting the rest of the UK outside of the capital. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-49263781

The recent news has angered people from outside of London as they're concerned it will affect their tourism, but places like Cornwall are already overcrowded with tourists which the locals also complain about.

Although London has 6 international airports and several smaller airports to serve the UK capital https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airports_of_London along with St. Pancras International train station to cope with all the visitors and tourists here each year, it does get very busy and overcrowded with a lot of tourists, so I don't want the city to be overwhelmed with even more tourists after the interrail ticket scheme ends.

The rail companies here need to devise a scheme to make rail travel more affordable. Coach options are cheaper, but it would take a long time to travel from London to Cornwall, or London to Cardiff, or London to Edinburgh by coach.

This Geordie student (people from Newcastle and Tyneside are called Geordies in the UK,) said he flies to Spain and then flies to London, as it's cheaper for him than taking a train directly from Newcastle in the north-east of England to London in the south-east of England:https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/201...cheaper-train/

The 21-year-old scoured the internet and found he could fly to London via the sunny Spanish island of Menorca for a bargain £26.99.

Upon arriving in the Mediterranean, the commuter had 12 hours to explore the island and headed straight a beach, which he had “all to himself”, in a budget hire car to enjoy the sunshine.

“Basically, you can have a night on a Spanish island, hire a car, have a cocktail on the beach, fly back to London and still have £40 left over,” he explained.

“I looked at the train and it was £78.50, the absolute cheapest I could find anywhere on the internet,” he said.

“But I once flew from Newcastle to Manchester via Switzerland because it was £20 cheaper, so I thought I’d have a look at what the flights were from Newcastle to anywhere in the world and then back to London Gatwick.

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/201...cheaper-train/
So flying can be cheaper than train fares - if you're wiling to fly out to Switzerland and then fly back into a different part of the UK, in order to see a different part of the UK whilst saving on train fares. I think it's ridiculous how expensive the train fares are within the UK.
