Russian President Vladimir Putin positively assessed the proposal to introduce a ban on public comparison and equalization of the actions of the Nazi and Soviet sides during the Great Patriotic War.
Vladimir Putin announced this on October 27 during a meeting of the Council for Culture and Arts, responding to the corresponding proposal of the head of the State Duma Committee on Culture, Elena Yampolskaya, who drew attention to the fact that books that equalize the Nazis and the Red Army are freely published in the Russian Federation.
“I believe that if the editors of our publishing houses do not have enough intelligence, conscience and disgust to withdraw such passages, they should be helped by legislation. It seems to me that we have a moral right to tighten the law when it comes to the desecration of our historical memory, ”said Elena Yampolskaya.
According to her, a corresponding legislative initiative is currently being prepared.
Vladimir Putin supported this idea, recommending to act very carefully in this matter.
“I agree with your suggestions, you need to do it carefully, of course. But if in some countries criminal punishment is provided for denying the Armenian genocide, God himself ordered us, probably, to include appropriate mechanisms to protect the very recent past, ”the Russian President said.
