Amsterdam, the beautiful capital of The Netherlands, is one the biggest tourist destinations in Europe. We start this walk at the Leidseplein, a central square and one nightlife hub of Amsterdam. We also walk past the Bloemenmarkt, the flower market, and head towards Rembrandtplein (Rembrandt Square). From there we continue our walk more eastwards over bridges to enjoy the view over the Amsterdam canals. Heading up North we pass the Jewish Historical Museum, Rembrandt House Museum and further up the Niewmarket back in the central city. Onwards through the RL district and the Binnenstad we make our way to the train station, from where most tourists enter Amsterdam and get their first impression of this fantastic city. The replica of the 1628 Dutch East Indiaman "Batavia" (the original ran aground off Morning Reef in Western Australia).
De Batavia is een authentieke reconstructie van een VOC-schip uit 1628. Onder leiding van scheepsbouwmeester Willem Vos bouwden van 1985 tot 1995 in Lelystad enkele honderden jongeren aan dit schip, in het kader van een scholings- en werkervaringsproject. Op 7 april 1995 werd de Batavia door Koningin Beatrix gedoopt en te water gelaten. Het duurde echter nog tot 4 oktober 2000 voordat het schip helemaal op eigen kracht kon gaan zeilen, tijdens een verblijf in Sydney, Australië, waar het schip ter gelegenheid van de Olympische Spelen heen was vervoerd. Cineast Roel Oostra heeft bouwmeester Vos en zijn Batavia sinds 1985 met de camera gevolgd: de bouw, de doopplechtigheid, de reis naar Australië en de eerste zeilproeven zijn door hem gefilmd, wat tot een uniek tijdsdocument heeft geleid.

Going East... to Twente: the town of Ootmarsum:
Strolling around through the winding streets and pretty alley's in authentic Oatmöske (Low Saxon) �� The interesting mix of historic Hollandic and old Saxon architecture makes for a unique town in the Netherlands. If you like art, I don't think there is town with more art galleries per square meter. Ootmarsum is located North-eastern Twente which has been designated as a national landscape, due to its rolling landscape, which is incredibly varied thanks to an intricate combination of streams, ashes, enclosed fields and cultivated marshland.
