Interesting sights of the town of Waddinxveen nearly a century ago. Waddinxveen is a medium size town in the province of Zuid Holland in the Netherlands, not far from the more well-known city of Gouda (famous for its cheese and candles).

Among other, this film shows the famous draw bridge over the river Gouwe as well as the characteristic old Dutch houses and (steam) boats on the Gouwe.
Waddinxveen was established when the famous Dutch count Floris the IV sold a piece of land in the year 1233. Therefore the town cellebrated it 750 years anniversary in 1983.

We had beautiful snow for 2 weeks, but now it is starting to disappear. Fortunately, because I have a shunting shift tomorrow .. We hebben een paar weken mooie sneeuw gehad, maar inmiddels begint het te verdwijnen. Gelukkig, want ik heb morgen een rangeerdienst.. EN - In Krawinkel the marksmen ("kings") - hung with silver - stand side by side on the side of the road, their wives next to them, and watch a parade of marksmens' associations. In a forest, some marksmen demonstrate their shooting skills with rifles. A markmen's celebration or guild festival is an annual festive popular entertainment organized by a local marksmen company or shooting guild. It is an old custom that occurs in large parts of Europe.

NL - In Krawinkel staan - met zilver behangen - schutterskoningen naast elkaar aan de kant van de weg, hun echtgenotes naast hen, en kijken naar een defilé van schuttersverenigingen. In een bos demonstreren enkele schutters hun schietvaardigheid met schuttersgeweren. Een schuttersfeest of gildefeest is een jaarlijks terugkerend feestelijk volksvermaak van een plaatselijke schutterij of schuttersgilde. Het is een oud gebruik dat voorkomt in grote delen van Europa.
