Budel 1991. Budel ligt aan de spoorlijn die Antwerpen verbindt met het Duitse Ruhrgebiet, de lijn wordt ook wel de IJzeren Rijn genoemd. De laatste jaren staat deze lijn bijzonder in de belangstelling bij spoorweghobbyisten. Vooral de hier aanwezige klassieke beveiliging maakt Budel tot een fotogeniek punt in het Nederlandse spoorwegnet. Met ingang van de zomerdienstregeling verdween de laatste doorgaande trein van deze lijn. De huckepacktrein van Neuss naar Antwerpen. Ook de serie 2400 van NS verdween met ingang van de zomerdienst uit Budel. 2200en kwamen ervoor in de plaats. Als derde spoorwegmaatschappij rijdt de NMBS, de Belgische spoorwegen, met ertstreinen naar de bij Budel gelegen zinkwitfabriek.

Dutch police escort an ambulance from the The Hague suburb of Zoetermeer (a satellite city which was built during the 1970s and 1980s) to the HMC Westeinde in The Hague:

N.a.v. een medische noodsituatie van een patiënt heeft het ambulancepersoneel een aanvraag gedaan voor motorbegeleiding vanuit Zoetermeer naar het HMC Westeinde Ziekenhuis in Den Haag. Deze aanvraag doen zij bij de meldkamer ambulance en nadat deze is goedgekeurd komt de aanvraag bij de meldkamer politie binnen. Deze stuurt vervolgens de motorrijders van Team Verkeer aan. Eenmaal ter plaatse maakt de commandant van de motorrijders afspraken met de ambulancechauffeur m.b.t. de route en het soort transport (glijdend/spoed/langzaam/snel etc.)

The paramedics requested a police escort from Zoetermeer to the HMC hospital in The Hague. After the request is granted by the supervisors three officers respond to the call and provide the escort.

This is old Holland. Very close to Amsterdam (5-10min drive) lies perhaps one of the prettiest villages in the Netherlands, Broek in Waterland. Unique are the many wooden houses which have been very well kept to their original state. For centuries, the picturesque nature of the village was known even outside the Netherlands and it was praised for its cleanliness. From the 17th century, the town was a popular tourist destination for people from nearby Amsterdam but received foreign guests as well. Napoleon famously came to visit here. Much earlier, Joseph II, the Holy Roman Emperor, visited the village but was refused to enter a farm, allegedly because the woman of the house had no time. ��

Every year, 650 million kilos of Gouda cheese is produced in the Netherlands. Most of it is produced industrially, using pasteurized milk, but there are 280 farmers across the country still making raw-milk boerenkaas, or farmer's cheese. And there are only two farms that take their cheese to the next level, making Boeren Goudse Oplegkaas, or aged artisanal Gouda, a special type of raw-milk farmhouse cheese that must weigh at least 20 kilograms, must age at least two years, and can be made only in the summer with cattle grazing in the Green Heart region, between the cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Utrecht. We met with cheesemaker Marije Van der Poel, who lives on an island in the village of Rijpwetering in South Holland with her husband, Hugo, and their three children and makes 15 wheels of aged artisanal Gouda every day at the back of their house.

Quite abundant (particularly in Holland and Utrecht) but not as much as they used to be as in the past all historic polders (those created before the mid-19th century) were surrounded by them (as those used to drain the water out of the polder and pump it into the surrounding ring canal) and the Zaan used to be a forest (used as an early form of industry) of windmills. These were all replaced over the course of the late 19th and through the 20th century with pumping stations and modern industry.
