If you behave the culture, you can fit in almost anywhere. Especially if you're not of different race. There even exist white Japanese people (people born there who speak Japanese as their mother tongue), though they are rare. No matter how good you speak that language, you will be able to work there and even live there and treated with respect, but you won't be one of them.
Still the most important thing is to accept yourself and don't worry whether society accepts you IMO. Society will put its stamp on you anyway. Fitting in is no problem if you're contributing.

The man in Sojourner's example is an old man who speaks the language fluently and lives in Russia for more than the half of his life. He probably became an honorary Russian. It's still rare I think for such a thing to happen. Depends also how much you contribute to your new society.

Well in Canada no one cares about interracial marriages and we don't have much racial tension, which we are thankful for. Canadians have a progressive thought process, they have strived to give all freedoms and even the freedom to love. I have seen interracial relationships and honestly most people mind their own business. If I love my partner and take care of her and that goes for anyone who does, it is no one damn business, I can understand the family but outsiders need to mind their own damn business, this how most Canadians think btw.

This is because canadians have been brainwashed through 12 years or more of schooling, the television, and ad campaigns. Even with all this there is still racial segregation to an extent.
