Herzegovina Croats

On ftDNA I'm 5th cousins with some Croat from Herzegovina. Initially I thought he was a Serbian due to his last name, but he said he was Catholic. I asked him how he considered himself, Serb or Croat?

He responded more in line of football teams (he started off supporting red start than hajduk). Then he said some interesting things we can discuss

1)He said he then considered himself just "Hercegovinian" because "Croats from Croatia hates Croats from Bosnia-Hercegovinia"
2)He believes he was Orthodox before and his slava was "Sveti Vraci/Komzan and Damjan" he said this in response to me asking his slava to which he responded I'm Catholic but my slava is this.

He now, as he says, considers himself a Goth (due to genetic test showing him to be I2-DinS, which he considers to be Goth derived). I also heard from Minesweeper some of his relatives turned Catholic and consider them Croats now.

How often is this?

From genetic stand point, Hercegovina Croats surprised, they are generally far more north of Serbs, with some minor exceptions. However they are south of Zagreb/Slavonians you can say in the middle between Serbs from Bosnia and people of Zagreb/Slavonians.

You know that Herzegovinian Croats are the most patriotic Croats, the thing by which they are primarily known among Croats. It was stated several times on TA and you mentioned it one or two times. They are aware of the dislike towards them. The similar situation is with the rest of B&H Croats and I don't see you asking anything about them too just because you ran into some nutjob over Internet. And out of many, many people from Herzegovina I met I would never think that someone wouldn't consider himself/herself as Croat just because of occasional dislike. It is just silly to put it mildly. I don't know is it true as you put it or not but someone considering themselves to be Croat just for being Catholic is also very silly. So, knowing you, I must ask, what is the hidden purpose of this thread?
