Who and what do you consider northern european?

I'm not gonna add any polls to this. The poll results are inconclusive, since not enough people vote and usually there is no conclusive results or even a pattern to it. What countries and peoples do you consider northern european? People on this forum and many in real life use and abuse this concept a lot. Most countries and peoples called northern here, are not really north european. Most germans,french and northern slavs are not north european for sure and not sure about british and irish either. What is your opinion and what are your criteria.

This is what many people on these anthroforums say, but it's absurd to consider France,Austria,Switzerland and Central and Southern Germany as Northern European. Also, interesting how the northern parts of the east and east-central Europe are not considered ''northern'' as often.

I see France and the British Isles as the real ''Atlantic facade'' of Western Europe.

I think people should use the term north europid for what they often call ''northern european'', i.e. light or ''blondish'' europeans. Northern Europe is much smaller and defined by geographic,cultural,historical and political criteria. Very light european is not the same as north european. There still is Central Europe and there are the Western and Eastern areas that are not really either Northern or Southern(France,former USSR and maybe British Isles and Low Countries even). I dislike even more how the term nordic is used to refer to the british,irish,germans and dutch or rarely to even balto-slavs(not south slavs of course).

This seems more reasonable. You could argue that the lands and peoples around the North and Baltic seas are truly northern.

In the strict sense of the word: Norway, Sweden, Denmark & Finland, these are culturally very similar countries.

In the broader sense all Germanic countries and I guess North-Slavics too
