Default Why is Holocaust Denial a crime in many countries, but not Gulag Denial?

In other words, why do several countries actually prohibit people denying or minimising the crimes of the Nazis, but not of the Soviets? Is there any objective and rational reason behind this double standard? (Btw, I vehemently oppose Holocaust Denial laws, as they are a serious infringement on freedom of speech).

I don't think gulag denial is as much of a thing, for one.

What's the point of trying to minimize the crimes of Nazis since it was well established fact that Nazis were evil? That makes no sense.

    What a question!
Never forget that they are the Chosen people, some would ever consider your question as a first step toward antisemitism...

For some Communists, it is. In some social circles one can still get away praising the Soviet Union without any sanction.

Yes, but the Soviets (or rather their misdeeds) were also evil, and this is something that is often overlooked by comparison.

Why is killing someone for their race or religion seen as inherently worse than killing someone for their social class or political orientation? At the end of the day, if you're dead, you're dead.

Right, that is certainly not as prevalent as Holocaust denial however.

Well OK, but that still doesn't answer my question as to why one should be a crime but not the other.

Communism should be as demonized as Nazism.
