Default Why does this Greek music sound like southern US square dancing music?

Around 6:50 in, and especially around 7:30 this sounds like square-dancing music from the US south!! Why? A similar phenomenon is observed in some music from Apulia.

Because of the fast tempo and violin/fiddle use. I hear it too. In fact, they are probably just borrowing from it and it's not of native influence in their music; more or less paying homage to that style. But ask Queen B or some of the other Greek members for their opinions too.

I've heard something similar before in other Greek music, and even in some southern Italian. Either way that style of music is Aegean islands and Anatolian Greek, so I was just puzzled why it can sound like it comes out of the mountains of Tennessee.

Sounds like a Chechen and a few Greeks got ahold of a bluegrass band. XD.

I doubt it's borrowed or anything. It starts out sounding very Anatolian Greek and then starts sounding more southern, but it easily sounds like one song. So to me it isn't anything non-Greek, it's just a puzzling coincidence.
