Setumaa a.k.a Petserimaa- region of orthodox Estonians- is an area which is a bit different than other parts of Estonia.
These areas belonged before the war to Estonia but now 2/3 of it belongs to Russia.

    Petseri (the center of Setumaa)

    Petseri monastry

In May 1939 there was a big accident in Petseri- a big fire. Because of heavy wind and hot weather the fire went out of control and 1/3 of the town burned down within 3-4 hours.

Was it a boding of the fatal events of autumn 1939-1940?

A few random, old pictures from 1st part of 20th century South-East Estonia:

Were all so big in 1913?
