Growing Up Greek, set in Tarpon Springs, Fla., features a group of Greek Americans in their twenties, who embrace stereotypes like breaking plates during a celebration, and engage in heated confrontations with one another.

“I wouldn’t trade being Greek for nothing,” one cast member says in the trailer.

The show, which airs on Dec. 3 at 11 p.m., has been met with much dismay from many Greek Americans who deem it a disgrace to the culture. A petition on Change.org was created calling it a “gross misrepresentation of what it means to Grow up Greek.” The petition has garnered over 4,000 supporters to date.

Growing up Greek " is a gross misrepresentation of what it means to Grow up Greek. What makes us Greek is PRIDE. Pride for our faith, family and each other. This show lessens us to look like Jersey Shore! We have worked hard to not have that stereotype. We are an ethnicity strong in family and Orthodoxy. This show is NOT who we are and we are embarrased.

It ain't like I'm worried of the MTV viewers stereotyping me... I wish that this series is as bad and filled with stereotypes as possible, so that I can enjoy it as comedy.

I only watched like 2 episodes of Jersey Shore. If this series takes off, be prepared to be compared to the morons from the show constantly for the next few years.

Hopefully the 'morons' from this show fade into obscurity rather than continue to be shown in the media like the ones from Jersey Shore have. A couple of them already have new shows.
