Actually, by the time you are an adult the heritability of IQ is between 50-80%, that is environmental factors account for a minimum of 20% and maximum of 50% of variation among adults, and it's more likely closer to the former. What Edison said is fairly irrelevant in this case.

Interesting to see that the Dutch IQ is high. When I was in secondary school I had to take a professional IQ test using Dutch peers as the benchmark and I came out significantly above average.

IQ's can drop where's the surprise? Diet for example can affect your iq and Scotland has one of the un-healthiest junk food diets in Europe (and shortest lifespans)

The Colonel is correct, and for those that don't know what a "brain-drain" is… this is when the most intelligent people of a society/country/group move from one population to another, effectively lowering the average IQ of the abandoned country and heightening the average IQ of the new country.

The immigration/emigration of the intelligencia plays the most significant factor.

It's quite possible that they have a lower average, but a higher ratio of highly intelligent individuals. This would explain why they have contributed so much to the world relative to their size.

Lol, or just general oneupmanship, an average of 97 vs 102 is not massive. All races can find means of confrontation within themselves, i think the only way you might get rid of this 'intra-race racism' (it's obviously not racism) is to eliminate the entire human population. This thread's a troll thread, but even if it was not, I don't think any Scot would be offended reading this. It's some (un-)quality banter. Really, who's going to get offended over being 'inferior' by 5 IQ points on average or whatever it is? Scots could turn around and reply, 'The English edge us by 5 points in IQ, on average, but we're far ahead of them in per capita university degrees, less harming on the environment in carbon emissions, and so on, and only lose on IQ because our best and brightest help keep your and other economies running smoothly'.
