You can't have nationalism before you have national consciousness and a nation or nationality. The common language was Romanian and the different subdialects don't change that. They are not even that different. Also there was the common Eastern Orthodox Christianity and it doesn't matter if the churches of the two states did not have common leadership, especially since they were still tied to Constantinople Patriarchy anyway.

In the current political climate Moldova may not be forced to give up Transnistria but we'll have to wait and see. A union of Romania and Moldova would most definitely be made without Transnsitria (or at least its biggest part) and probably Gagauzia.
LOOOL, you're dying a little inside when you see moldovans declaring themselves romanians. You probably can't sleep at night thinking that Romania will very soon get bigger when you want to see it getting smaller
