You can't have nationalism before you have national consciousness and a nation or nationality. The common language was Romanian and the different subdialects don't change that. They are not even that different. Also there was the common Eastern Orthodox Christianity and it doesn't matter if the churches of the two states did not have common leadership, especially since they were still tied to Constantinople Patriarchy anyway.

In the current political climate Moldova may not be forced to give up Transnistria but we'll have to wait and see. A union of Romania and Moldova would most definitely be made without Transnsitria (or at least its biggest part) and probably Gagauzia.

What would happen to Transnistria and Gagauzia? The small Bulgarian minority is Russophile too? Best thing would be for the Ukraine to take Transnistria, rather than Russia, but the latter still has it's 14th army there.

Moldovan Orthodox church is in jurisdiction of Moscow patriarchate. There is also metropolis of Bessarabia , which is exarchate of the Romanian patriarchate with jurisdiction of Romanian orthodox communities in Moldova.

The relegion is the same, while both churches are in different administrative divisions. It's a big thing for some countries such as Moldova or Ukraine.

The 14th army is there only in name (about 1000 soldiers left), as I said current developments (and if they continue the same way) may bring an end to the transnistrian issue faster than we thought.

Without Russia's backing Transnsitria is no more, separatists will run like rabbits. What saved transnistrians in 1992 was Russia's intervention because otherwise the moldovans would've mauled their asses.

I wrote in the opening post that no, it does not include Transnistria.

Romania and Moldova are Yugoslavia. The last real artificial multiethnic country in the region with dangerous nationalism of the majority.

LOOOL, you're dying a little inside when you see moldovans declaring themselves romanians. You probably can't sleep at night thinking that Romania will very soon get bigger when you want to see it getting smaller

Bigger with armed conflict in Moldova and presumably in Transylvania too.

I will be there in Transylvania presumably, I was too young in the early ninethies, but I am not too old now.
