I thought that in Scotland calling someone "Campbell" or "Archibald" is almost like an insult, because of the treachery where Cambells murdered a rival clan who had accepted them into their homes to sleep for the night. Plus always being on the side of the British government.

I always had the image of the Campbells as a pro-Union Protestant anti-Jacobite clan, and the MacDonalds as a anti-Uniom Catholic pro-Jacobite clan. I guess not all the septs were the same though.
