Americans, what is your ethnic origin?

I am curious about what is the ethnic origin of American members and if they are mixed, like many, if not most, what proportions do the different components of their ancestry is. I'd like American members to state their ethnic origin. Some just say they are for example: English, German and Irish, but without mentioning the proportions and probably exagerate how much non-English they have for instance, in many cases. They should mention their ancestry as such here: 2/4 English, 1/4 Irish and German each. That is an example of course and I don't mean you have to pretend you have more English and many are ''pure'' ethnically too.

I always wondered how easy it was for people in the US to forget their ancestry and just remember percentages. I can't imagine immigrating to America, marrying a Euro mutt and have my kid identify as 1/8 Greek, 1/8 Irish etc... Lineage passes through the father and it's up to him to educate his kids (at least the males).

That's Islamic. A half-Arab, half-German is just an Arab to them. I don't like that bullshit. There is no point for a half-Greek, 1/4 German, 1/4 Irish American to identify as Greek. He is not Greek, he is American, maybe white/Caucasian/European American, but still American, not "just Greek".

If his father was Greek, and his father's fathers were Greek etc and he identifies as Greek then, as long as the mother belongs to the white race, he is Greek to me. That 1/4 lineage crap is moronic to me.
If he is "American" then his ancestors did a bad job at educating him and giving him an ethnic identity.

So you'd ignore the woman's ancestry? If he was born in the US, he is American. Jennifer Anniston is half-Greek, but she is American, because her dad, though being ethnically Greek, was also born or grew up there and then married a non-Greek woman. Now she is seen as American, which is right.

If you mean people that live in Greece, then yes, I agree. Half-Greeks living in Greece should be absorbed.
