Yes i think they were turkic. But i cant say what happened to them, just have some thoughts about that. The Bulgarians haven’t genetic impact of this people, they are (South) Slavic.

Bulgarians = 35% Slavic, 35% indigenous Thracian, 5% Gothic, 12.5% Bulgar and 12.5% Byzantine-east-Roman. The last two is why they have a pull towards the Middle-East.

Yes, they were Turkic indeed. They adopted the Slavic tongue and Christian religion from the Romans to bring themselves closer to Europe.

Yes. Going "balls deep" into the topic and reading stuff from different sources and conflicting opinions showed me why the Turk( and more recently Hun ) origin of the Bulgars is the most accepted explanation. Sure, they mixed mostly with Iranic people and took some of their names and traditions. The evidence shows that their ruling elite and the main culture spread by their conquest were Turkic. The genetic makeup and how East Asian they were is another topic. I hope archaeology coupled with genealogy can answer these questions soon.

I don't know about this topic, but it doesn't make sense Chuvash people to be the only descendants of the Huns. The Hun Empire was big in territory and also was split in 3 parts. I would bet that there is more than one people group who were descendants of them.

About "Turkic peoples, Huns, Sarmatians, Scythians", aren't Scythians and Sarmatians considered the Iranic people who were assimilated into the Hun Empire?

In the following weeks I spent some time in other forum and saw that things are not so black and white and that some pan-Turkists are very loud and almost deafening. I like my signature better.

And the overwhelming evidence is Bulgars were Turkic. The rest is pseudo-history trying to suggest Bulgars were some kind of Iranians and therefore Indo-Europeans, with the hope of distancing modern Bulgarians from their Turkic roots. Good luck with that.
