It seems like a beautiful protestant church to me (it has this stern Dutch protestant interior) but do you think something has happened there that might explain the oppressive feeling ?

I think the fact that it is Dutch protestant is reason enough. I have that feeling when I walk into any of them. The one in Franschhoek is an example and the Grootte Kerk in Cape Town too. It's like walking into a courtroom with the ghosts of generations of stern and dead Afrikaners judging you from the benches. It's not pleasant. I've been in a few other Dutch protestant churches and it's as if something screams at me, "Get out! Get out! We don't want you here!" I'm happy to comply and leave.

Ah, yes, they are the kind of prots that we only have in our Bible Belt. And you're a Papist, so you're like Satan's mum to them .

Wake up and smell the coffee.

This is a pic of the (only) church in my mom's town. She is friends with the organist. This woman had a stroke and she plays that organ with one hand like someone else can play only with two. She has the keys to the church so she can go in at any time to play the organ as long as she likes. I went to visit my mom a couple years ago and the lady invited us to listen to her play. Unfortunately I was so sick I couldn't get out of bed, but my husband and mom went with her.

My mom has gone to one church service there. She said she is never going again. It's like a desert for the soul (her words).

From these photos you can see what I call the "courtroom" feeling. There's no God there! They decide whether they're going to hang you or not. All they're interested in is the "guilty" verdict. And fire and brimstone.

At least, that is the vibe I get from those churches. Creepy.

Interestingly, the organist has a degree in music and she knows all the Latin hymns too. She started belting out the Te Deum and Tanto Ergo on that old organ! Fortunately it was on a Wednesday morning and all the Afrikaners were probably at a prayer circle for the dying and decrepit. They'd die of heart failure if they knew that kind of music was being played in their beloved NG church!

How to solve a serious ecological crisis? Use the Lancaster's grandson, the venerable Avro Shackleton, to get the job done! This is exactly what the South Africans did in 1971.

Special thanks to: Miles Audio Visual - for more great Shackleton videos visit: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIju...
