    I am for.

Maybe being from a society where most schools have uniforms has influenced my decision. Most children in the UK love to complain about how uncool uniform is, but when we grow up, we realise that it was probably for the best.

Schools are breeding grounds for bullying. That is what kids are naturally like (and adults too it seems). People will always find differences to pick on. But by having uniform, that is one difference which is not there. We can not eradicate bullying, but we can deal with it effectively.

It is also much easier to plan and prepare. Many teenagers are self-conscious and spend a lot of time thinking about what to wear. With school uniform, you don't need to spend an hour making a decision of what will impress your classmates. Because the uniform has been set and you just put it on without hesitation.

Also, it builds a sense of identity and community within a school. Arguably, it prepares them for when they get a job, where most employers have a dress code which must be conformed to.

BUT, I also recognise the disadvantages. It can be expensive (schools have monopoly power over uniform, and parents have no choice bu to buy it). And ideologically, it is against the idea of freedom of choice, and does not allow individual expression. As HunterSV said, it is militaristic.

However, I think the advantages are greater.

Basic schooling (under 14) is ok with uniform. It's extremely ridiculous to me to see people having uniforms in High School or University though.

For. I'd prefer official uniforms, like some of the schools are getting, rather than clothing rules about what to and not wear.

Takes less time to get ready for school. Less of a headache to deal with when it comes to buying clothing. It also gives a nice, clean cut image to the school and its students, which inherently carries respect to it.

One can channel their inner creativity towards their schoolwork. Children don't go to school to take part in a fashion show.

Agree. People make discrimination between social classes and it's just not fair, because you are there to show how smart you are, not if your family is rich or not.
I also find uniforms very elegant and attractive.

I'm for them. I was a poor kid in a middle class school, if we had not had a standard uniform I would have stood out as my mum couldn't have afforded to keep buying me new clothes as the other kids would have had.

There was once a super religious aggressive kid that went to school with me. I made fun of him in a subtle way for being seen at a dollar store, knowing good and well my ass was shopping there too lol.

I was poor growing up and most, if not all, of what I wear is secondhand clothing. Everything that takes place at school should be secondary to education. I feel sad to hear a lot of children are affected by bullying these days, and that it's even expanded to online bullying, with irresponsible knucklehead parents taking part of the bullying as well.

I think school uniforms would have made life easier when I went to school, but it is what it is.

Can understand why there's a uniform because some children have lazy/busy or poor parents. A child could wear the same clothes for a while & get bullied for it. That could develop onto other issues.

Support for publik schools, children should be there to learn, not to "express themselves" and socialize.

However US publik schools are more like daycare/babysitting centers with no actual education, so, whatever…

I used to go to a parochial school and wore a school uniform every day. They can sometimes be a bit expensive but as far as actually wearing uniforms, I don't have an issue with it.
