How big of a thing is this?

It baffles me that this whole Eurasianist ideology is so common in Russia. It seems that Russia is a country in which ethnic Russians feel closer to the other races of the former Soviet Union than to their racial brothers in the West. Why is this? Is some sort of independent ethnic Russian state possible, and if so, would it be closer to the West than Russia is at present?

Are you sure there are many proponents of this Eurasianist ideology today in Russia? Because that's not what I've heard.

Dugin likes to shout but Ruskies don't give 2 fucks about him. I doubt the common Ruskie feels any connection with the Turkic tribes and probably dislikes Georgians. Whether Putin wishes to lead a Eurasian Union is a different thing (dunno how much he supports such an idea though).

Russia is a federation and Russian nationalism with the inclusion of minorities like Tatars, Chuvash, mari etc obviously is in their best interests than looking elsewhere.

I don't feel closer to them at all. Neither do many others. However, I care less and less about this country as a whole. It's trully fucked up, probably beyong repair (though I'm no fan of what is called "the West" nowadays either, to say the least). Why is that? Thanks to our history. As some person told me, Russia is the last remaning Empire of the European colonial era. The only difference is that it has the continuity of its borders, unlike the British and Spanish emipres.
Ethnic Russian nationalism is discouraged here and labeled 'chauvinist'. And I understand why. You cannot ignore 20+ percent of the population that live in their own lands, they are not immigrants like those in Europe. So it would be meaningful only in the case of a break-up.
