But even among poor/middle class you find whites playing those roles. The main caracters of this Mexican telenovela, a mom and 3 sons, are poor, but the actors are white.

The explanation is actually simple.

Latin American cultures receive the influence from european and North-American media and culture. The pinacle of high class and beauty is what USA and european cultures have claimed and the latin american media repeats this. The high class sphere and the interests from the people with properties/economic relevance in Latin America help maintaining this situation.

This is like the oppsite of Sweden. Here even the ethnic Swedish actors in thrillers, crime-shows etc are darker than the average. The Swedes do love watching "exotic" actors.

It was common in the 90´s, and even there we still had mulatos. Today around 20% of the cash is pardo and 20% is black. blacks are extremely overrepresented.
