So, Syriza has taken over, elected by the Greek people. Will he solve Greece's financial problems? I don't know, time will tell. I think Merkel doesn't like him - which to me is alreadt a good sign.

He is charismatic, young, and could be Greece's only hope for created a better and more stable future.

    Down with the troika!!

What are your thoughts on the matter, Greek people?

Syriza and Alexis Tsipras are not alone, we have a coalition government where the "Independent Greeks" party takes part.

Let's see what Panos Kammenos will do.

The first signs of his policy were positives

He seems like a nice chap, but I like Greece's new finance minister, Yanis Varoufakis, even more.

Yes, he seems to give Merkel the middle finger (who is not happy - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-31072321 ).

I wish them best and trust them to entirely reverse the austerity measures. It could be an example for other countries in Europe, even the UK.

Great interview in English with Varoufakis. As usual, British press tries to smear him by associating him with the views of some extreme members of Independent Greeks- and tries to get simple yes-no- answers out of him on complex issues.

I'm German and I really dislike the anti-German rhetorics of his party and many Greeks in general. They are infantalising this. It's not Germany vs South Europe. It's the creditor nations against Greece. But I completely agree with a lot of things Tsipras says. Austerity does not work. It cannot work. What we must do is freeze the debt (so no more interest adds up) and give the Greeks 15-25 years to start fresh and with investment programs from the EU. Of course, there must be conditions for it. Like finally taxing the rich and really also controling ownership of land, boats etc. If Greece cannot do it alone, it can create laws that will allow officials and police from other far less corrupt EU countries (I think Denmark or Finland is the least corrupt and could lead). My mother told me one or two years ago that the Lower Saxony State is searching giving good payment for those "office of finances" workers who will go to Greece and help them create an effective system. Merkel's foreign policy is just bad and destructive. The problem is however still in Greece. It was ruled by some families for decades and many things need to be created from zero. However, we must safe Greece. It is just very complicated.

Partially. Parties like Syriza are standing up against international finance, but tend to have weak social positions as most leftists do. Immigration is a problem in Greece and I suspect that Syriza will do nothing to limit or end it. I can definitely get behind the economic policy though.
"Reduce God to the attribute of nationality? … On the contrary, I elevate the nation to God…. The people is the body of God. Every nation is a nation only so long as it has its own particular God, excluding all other gods on earth without any possible reconciliation, so long as it believes that by its own God it will conquer and drive all other gods off the face of the earth." - Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Tsipras is the Greek version of Merkel. Don't let him fool you!
