    Question Crockpots

Anyone here have a crockpot? Which would you recommend? I just saw a video where a guy took a large plate of chicken breasts, some potatoes, brussel sprouts, canned whole tomatoes and marinara sauce, put them in a crockpot, and then set it to cook for 6 hours and apparently he just made all his meals for the week in 5 minutes. I'm thinking about getting one of these things.

I really like this idea as I hate to cook and wait for 40 minutes for a single meal.

Crockpots are nice and convenient. I have put a roast on in the morning, gone to work and returned to a nice meal.
They do consume electricity which is expensive in my region.
The last crockpot I had cracked after a year of moderate use.

If you want the ultimate crockpot, go here. CrocksR.us has an excellent collection. This place sometimes has them on sale. If all else fails, you can always try this big discount warehouse.

I have a Römertopf clay pot, which I assume would a bit similar to the pot above. To prevent it cracking you're supposed to soak it in water for 10-15 min., then put it into a cool oven, and only then start heating it up.

They are very nice and an easy way to make a tasty meal. However unglazed clay pots absorb some of the flavours of the food, so it's a good idea to have separate ones for chicken and meat and for fish and seafood.

The crockpot version is glazed. I suppose it did overheat from lack of water.

My favorite cooking utensil for similar meals is the Dutch Oven or in my case a French Oven.
I currently use a glazed version. It did cost an arm and a leg but I will never end up destroying this beauty.

My wife is the cook. I'm just the eater, and dishwasher.

She normally prepares roasts and vegetables in a smaller traditional crockpot when cooking just for the two of us. But for special occassions involving guests, she uses a larger crockpot she received as a gift. The first time I saw it, I couldn't resist commenting, "That's a lot of crock."

Okay, you can slap the back of my head now.

    Stop the hate, separate!
