Central Italy is....

- where you see a small medieval town on every hill

- where you can buy a sandwich with porchetta

- in pubs you find the olive ascolane

- where cantine aperte (open wineries) in October is the signal that wineries are selling new wine at low prices and everybody goes there to get drunken!
- where people match colours in an absurd way (Latium) or in summer wear wooden clogs (Abruzzo)
- where every village has an historical rivalry with the neighbour village, usually for something happened between 1200 and 1700

It's not really forgotten, it's just Italian culture by default. People talk about more divergent parts of Italy because it's more exotic in regards as to what is generally construed about the country.

I think most Hollywood's cliché are based on Sicily/Campania.

I think people do have a tendency to forget that there is a Central Italy. I hear so many people talk about North vs. South and they seem to leave out Central Italy. That's a shame, because central Italy is where places like Rome and Tuscany are.

The opinions in the world don't sum up to Hollywood clichés or to what Americans perceive. I was led to believe that this was a Eurocentric forum.

The perception that a Frenchman, a Spaniard, a German or an Hungarian have of Italy have nothing to do with America.

Maybe I am biased, but I think central Italy has also the most beautiful women: Monica Bellucci, Virna Lisi, Gina Lollobrigida Marika Baldini, Alessia Reato, to name just a few.
