Default Subclade R-Z56 (the "Italic clade" of R1b-U152)

Found (as far as I know) with most frequency in northwest Italy.

My subclade Z44 seems a bit mysterious. Will be interesting to see as more people's Y-Dna is collected in years to come. As far as I know I have no known Italian ancestry, but that doesn't rule out Roman colonization as a potential source in my case. Other than that it could have been residual Z56 in or north of the Alps within Gaulish people. People under S47 in general seem to come from across Europe, and I've heard speculation that there could have been settlement somewhere in the Rhône valley, which then spread in multiple direction, some migrating to Italy across the alps, while others migrating towards Switzerland and Southern Germany.

    My paternal ancestry is German.

That appears to just be another name for R1b-U152.

If you want to find a more specific subclade, there's a number of options. For something free I'd recommend the Morley Dna subclade predictor (It's online, just google it if you want)
It might be able to give you a more specific result if you upload your raw Dna data, or maybe not. If not, there are services you can pay for from YSEQ or FTDNA. Those are the ones I know of at least.
