both belong to different genetic(basic component wise) and civilization systems lighter South Asians move towards South Central Asia hence tend to have more indo european(for the lack of better word) features as opposed to Semitic derivatives/ME.

I don't expect average joe to know differences, for exemple sikhs are always targeted because whites think they are middle easterns. But i expect better from someone on anthro forum. There is nothing middle eastern about South Asians. So lighter skinned south asians do not look like middle easterns. I don't see this light skinned bolly hero to pass west of indus among pashtuns.

I can see this actor passing among pashtuns even if he is shade darker then above one.

But west asia/middle east is out of question here, features are different. They belong to different race.

There are different variants of Irano-Afghan spectrum IMO Pashtuns have South Central Asian variant that can also occur sporadically among high caste Punjabi/Sindhis while ME also have other variants(though obviously there is lot of diversity), though there are overlaps.original anthropologists used pashtun tribesmen to benchmark whole spectrum
    For example

    Pashtun

    middle east

I said same thing that he can pass in Pakistan among pashtuns without much problem, usually people have some other ideas when they say someone passes somewhere or not. Passing as dark looking/different phenotype among some ethnic group is also another thing which I don't get. Pakistan only overlaps with east Afghanistan and north west India for the most part if we ignore minorty of fringe ethnic groups.

For exemple this Paki punjabi can pass among pashtuns as typical because he has irano-afghan kind of phenotype. While usually nord-indid kind of punjabis may also pass but they will not be typical. Irano-afghan and Indo-afghan is dominant phenotype among pashtuns.

Omanis are the most paki looking Arabs..than Emiratis and Bahrainis. Kuwaitis to some extent

Some south Iraqis from Basra look almost Dravidian.

Some Yemenis and Soqotri types particularly in Aden and Hadramaut have an affinity with the types found in Sri Lanka, Maldives, etc
