Are you from Azerbaijan? Just wondering? People for the most part don't hate Muslims, but they might dislike Islam due to the negative image the media has shown to them, but have never interacted with any Muslim other than hearing the parroted lies about them. Islam is also very diverse religion with a diverse set of believes, one can ask why do people hate Christians? The answer would be more or less similar. Islam has gotten a bad image, usually from small sects that have very literal and puritanical sects that get a lot of attention due to the noise they make, and their negative behavior. Yet outside these sects, Islam is no more different than any religion and it's hate seems stupid.

They are so unhappy with themselves that they submit their male children to atrocious genital mutilations.

Since they are so much self-hating, why shouldn't we have the same feelings towards them?
This. The freedom-hating totalitarian nature of the religion itself is bound to clash when it's more present in our society. It's no rocket science.

Well, I think negatively of Islam and I have interacted with plenty of muslim whom I consider open-minded. I also have been invited in households of muslims, conservative muslims even. That's the old fallacy 'it's their lack of understanding of the religion'.

Well in some pagan cultures they might have. I wouldn't say all. Pagan societies were not all well developed. The more civilized societies tended to not practice that behavior.

It isn't to say that in a thousand years what ever religions of the future may not look back and say 'You know those Abrahamist followers were rather savage in behavior and practiced rather odd religions'.

You should remember Islam is applied differently to people of different cultures. There are cultural factors that are combined, which people may take as religious. There is a large difference between the various sects of Islam and their thought process as well. However many often combine cultural practices and think it derives from the religion and most often it does not.

You seem to think that it's merely non-Islamic aspects that I disagree with. I also disagree with how the Qur'an for instance, looks as fornication as a sin. While I think that this is just part of human nature.

Of course, as in Ouistreham's example, male circumcision. That is more open for debate. It's only mentioned in the hadith and it's not really compulsory in Islam. However, most muslims do circumcise their sons nonetheless and treat it as an obligation.

I have met some who were cool and others who I choose to not interact with based on observing them. The type I dislike those are those who try to push the religion onto me or my society. They act very inconsiderate to me or even my ancestors who came here because of religious persecution. Sure my ancestors weren't necessarily perfect but I believe in continuing the religion they followed.

Sodomy is a sin in our culture too.
