Elderly couple still waiting for police to respond to crime scene.
Hazeldene residents Granville (81) and Vivienne (71) Almond, recently got the fright of their lives when burglars entered their home in the early hours of the morning.
The intruders entered the couple’s bedroom at about 2.40am, by bending the burglar bars in the open window.
Vivienne was sleeping and Granville was watching TV in the lounge.
“They casually walked around the bedroom, collecting my wife’s camera, wedding ring, handbag, cellphone and other things,” Granville said.
“While they were doing this my wife woke up, thought it was me in the dark and asked what I was doing walking around at that time of night.
“Upon hearing her speak, the thieves exited the bedroom with their swag, and only then did she discover what had happened.”
Granville called 10 111, and reported the matter.
He was given a reference number and the assurance that the police were on their way.
“At 10.30am I telephoned the Germiston Police Station and again reported the case, and was assured that the police were on their way.
“To date, we are still waiting for them,” he said.
“This matter instils a total lack of faith in our local police.
“Does one have to be murdered before any action is taken?
My wife could very easily have been, with her being 71 and me being 81 years of age.”
