'Old-style hooliganism': Violence flares in Leicester Square after England's shocking World Cup defeat

A lone German supporter finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time as he is surrounded by England fans bitter at their team's colossal loss.
The man, who was bare-chested in London's Leicester Square, is jostled and elbowed as he tries to find an escape route.

This was one of a few isolated incidents of football violence to flare around the world after England were sent crashing out of the World Cup after being beaten 4-1 by Germany.

The ugly scenes, were witnessed by diners in nearby restaurants, brought back memories of the eighties and nineties when football violence was rife.

Soon, horrified bystanders began tweeting what they were witnessing on Twitter. One fan said: 'This is sad. Old style hooliganism'.

LOL! When will people learn that whilst Sky TV, and other large corporation media channels, projects football as an all catchment family entertainment event; to be enjoyed by all ages, colour and creed, that the stark reality is that football is fanatically dominated by the tribalism that created and honed the entity which is nowadays called football.

What are people expecting exactly? For English fans to hold hands with Germans or other people from other nations and rejoice with songs and friendship?

For crying out loud, every Saturday there are stabbings, beatings and large groups of men charging around England all in the name of football. Each one is Englishman against Englishman.

That German fan is an idiot. Whilst he may not have deserved what he got, the fact remains he is an idiot and deserves all he gets for placing his life in danger through naivety.

Wake up people. The English will love you and welcome you, but at the end of the day you are not one of us, you are foreign. An intruder. An Orc.

hm... doesn't happen in many other places though. Some do take football as a family thing you know. Passionate and intense, yes, but also a way to teach kids things about sportsmanship and fair competition. Maybe the German lad just thought the same. Although he probably was too drunk (of drink or happiness, or both!) to know exactly where he was after the fourth goal anyway
Still, lynching (or attempts to) for a football game will never get my approval. Anywhere. Anytime.
