i dont know how is it in venezuela but, if we were talking about argentina, separating between upper and lower class depending on public/private hospital wouldnt be right..

60% of argentines go to private hospitals and 40% go to public hospitals...and this is not strange if we take into account that anybody who works for a company will have a "obra social" and will be able to attend a private hospital...even if you are working in a Mcdonalds...

so, if we take into account 27% of argies are poor (latest non official result for 2014), then we can reach the conclusion that private hospital majority will be middle class...and public hospital minority will be low middle class....there will be a genetic difference (as i previously stated with the Bs As example) but not as big as upper vs lower class difference..

MEl 45% de la población argentina, estimado en 18 millones de personas, recibe atención médica en una obra social, el 40 en un hospital público y sólo el 8,3% contrata servicios de medicina prepaga, según reveló un informe del Congreso Argentino de Salud.

Indeed, other Venezuelan important cities who are socioeconomically better positioned than Caracas (like Valencia and Barquisimeto, for example) might have a proportionally bigger middle class, compared to Caracas.

I actually would say that middle class must be about a half of the total population from Caracas (40% minimum is just a wild guess of the lowest estimation, being pessimistic).

And those numbers you gave, very closely correspond with the average admixture of Venezuelans according to different genetic studies, taking into account the whole Venezuelan population.
You are starting to sound a lot like dbbrainer

Not really. But I know Caracas, since I grew up between Caracas and Maracay during my childhood and teenage years, and I know for certain that people who live in favelas are NOT more than 60% of Caracas (60% being very pessimistic) Middle class and upper class are full of whites, castizos and harnizos, with some few individuals here and there, who show some degree of black admixture. Lower-middle class has probably some more triracials, but it has also plenty of whites, harnizos and castizos. They are just middle class people who have some more economic hardship, compared to the mid-middle class.

And NOT everybody who live in the favelas are griffes, mulatto, or triracials. You can also find a good number of people within the mestizo phenotypic spectrum, and even some few whites, even in there. I think Caracas is very similar to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (racially speaking, and socioeconomically speaking): Lots of favelas, but also a huge middle class.

Umm I think these concepts vary from country to country.

I think a lot of people considered middle-class in Venezuela –simply because they don't live in a favela- would be considered working-class in Chile.

Several reason, the main one is that Brighton is saying that midle class venezuelans would be considered working class in Chile.
