Want Kids To Eat Healthy? Make Their Meals More Like McDonald's

Applying the McDonald's Happy Meal treatment to healthy foods could make kids more likely to eat them. New research from the American Academy of Pediatrics found that offering smalls prizes and toys with a nutritious meal caused youngsters to select it over other lunch options by an increase of 300 percent.

Researchers made two small tweaks to the lunches offered to students in kindergarten through sixth grade at an inner city elementary school in Cincinnati, Ohio. In the first adjustment, healthy options in the cafeteria -- including fruits, vegetables, fat-free milk and a main meal with whole grains -- were labeled with a green smiley face emoticon.

It's called positive rewarding in psychology. The child's brain relates a specific type of food with the reward, thus making it more attractive to eat.Same as puppies

    Want kinds to eat healthy?

Go to the fucking store and buy them some healthy food.Kids can't cook, and most don't go and buy their own food. Its usually the parents fault if a kid eats unhealthy.

When I have kids I will be responsible enough to monitor what they eat and not make petty excuses about things that are originally my responsibility.

Default Want Kids to Eat Healthier?

If given the choice between eating a salad loaded with veggies or a burger and fries most kids, and for that matter most adults, would likely pick the less healthful option. But instead of telling kids to eat more fruits and vegetables, salad consumption among kids increased as much as 90% when a digital display showed a rotating image of the salad. The results are from a field study conducted in July at the YMCA of Greater Des Moines camp in Boone. The camp is for children with diabetes, aged 6 to 12. The kitchen staff weighed the salad bar items before and after each meal to calculate how much was consumed. The digital sign had the greatest appeal among boys at the camp, who were 50% to 70% more likely to serve themselves lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and carrots when the digital display showcased a vivid picture of a salad.
