Yeah, all the places that you might actually be interested in DNA from, don't have much to offer. Spain, western france, ancient greeks, ancient Ireland and England, and of course Africa.

There was only some pontic DNA that showed as brown hair and eyes, but it was not really TRU ANCIENT GREEKS.

But the mtdna for mycenaeans was similar to NW european so you can do the math from there.

Yeah, you'd think that it'd be extremely easy to do some large scale autosomal DNA testing on remains from ancient Greece/Egypt/pretty much any civilization because of the large amount of relatively well preserved human remains. It would be of great interest as well, both historical, anthropological etc.

I think it actually has to do with it being kind of controversial, which is sad from a scientific standpoint.
