10 Useless Beauty Items You Waste Your Money On
Source: http://wmnlife.com/beauty-fashion/10...-your-money-on
Commercials are powerful. So are advertisements, leaflets, and other marketing techniques making us buy what we do not really need. Not only do we not need some certain things, they cost us huge money!
Just take some time and calculate how much dough you have wasted on unnecessary beauty products this year and you will find out that you could have found better things to invest that money into. Here is the list of products we could easily live without:
1. Split-End Remedies
The more products beauty industry creates the richer it becomes. If you buy serums and shampoos to fix split ends, then you are one of the naive people who still believe that such a remedy really exists. The truth is that split-ends remedies only hide the problem. They do not cure your hair, but smooth the split hair down instead. If you want to solve the problem, first what you should do is to stop or at least limit the use of hairdryers, curling tongs, straighteners and use this kind of equipment only a couple of times a month. Always apply some heat protection product to reduce the harm prior to using a hairdryer. Never brush your hair when it is still wet. Simply comb it with your fingers. If you cannot avoid using hairdryers, then alternate warm and cool air. Finally, regularly go to the hairdresser’s and have your hair trimmed. The frequency should be at least 6-8 weeks or, preferably, even more often. Your hair then might not be too long, but it will look and feel healthy which is far more important.
2. Cellulite Creams
We tend to believe there is a magic wand that will make us beautiful in a wink. One of the myths that we want to dispel is the effectiveness of cellulite cream. Those who have tried this product know that it is not as effective as it claims to be. If it were, then liposuction wouldn’t exist. For now the only two things that really can fight cellulite on your buttocks is active lifestyle and healthy eating habits. Cut down the amount of junk food you buy on your way to work or back home. Eat less fatty and salty snacks and you will see that you are becoming slimmer. And, as we all know, cellulite is nothing but unevenly distributed fat cells. Some might blame it all on their slow metabolism. There is a way out for them as well. It is easy to speed up metabolism by drinking pure water. You can also try different massages, because they stimulate blood circulation and detoxify the entire organism. Apply scrub and rub it gently onto you skin – your dead skin cells will be removed and your skin will look smoother.
3. Toner
We use toners to clean our skin. We first wash our face with a special face wash, then we apply toner to remove any residue. The matter is that modern face washes, soaps, and cleansers do not leave any residue, so there is no need to have a toner. Finally, most toners dry out your skin, while you can simply use cleansers PH level of which is neutral.
4. Shower Gel
Shower gel is a purchase you can refrain from next time you go shopping. You might wonder what the substitute for shower gel is. The answer would be soap. Use olive soap instead of shower gel. Olive oil contains nutrients and vitamins, softens your skin and does not damage it. On the other hand, most shower gels contain diethanolamine, lauryl sulphate, and parabens that penetrate into your skin, are absorbed into the blood stream and do harm to brains and inner organs. Your skin might feel a little bit dry after soap, but this is normal and after a short period of time you will get used to this healthier alternative.
5. Suntan Lotion
How many hours a day do you stay in the sun? If you like sunbathing or spending most of your time outside, then you probably have suntan lotion. But be honest and think if you really need it. If you use creams, foundations, primers and moisturizers, then you do not need any additional sun protection since all of the make-up products include UV filters. Nowadays manufacturers offer us suntan lotions as strong as SPF 80 and even higher. Do you ever really need this kind of protection? Probably not. Besides, some dose of vitamin D is essential for our overall health, and vitamin D is produced by our bodies when we get UVB rays. Once you apply a suntan lotion, you stop your body from absorbing these rays.
6. Hand and Foot Cream
It is unbelievable how powerful marketing tricks are. Another myth that they have created is that people need different creams for different body parts. Some parts do need extra care, but in most cases you can use one single product for your whole body. Moisturizers work all the same and you can use them for both your hands and feet.
7. Body Scrubs
Body scrubs can be easily replaced. Their best alternatives are cheap yet natural products such as: sugar, salt, baking soda, coffee, green tea and so on. They perfectly exfoliate your skin and remove dead body cells. If you mix them with honey, various oils, vegetables and fruits, you will have home-made body scrub. These things cost nothing, are available at any time and at any store, they can be found in any kitchen and are absolutely harmless. On the other hand, spa quality body scrubs cost $50 and more and contain chemicals. Forget all of them and try experimenting with what you have at home.
8. Lip Balms
Lip skin does not produce oils and always feels dry. It is thin and needs some extra care and protection. Most manufacturers claim that the only way to hydrate your lips is to buy lip balms. But the fact is that there are other ways of how to take care of your lips without spending money. Some lip balms contain alcohol. And alcohol dries out skin even more. This makes you apply another layer of balm and you find yourself in a vicious circle. It is profitable for the manufacturer and absolutely destructive to you and your wallet. What we suggest is to use olive oil, coconut oil or any moisturizer instead of balm. Beeswax and coco butter are great for sensitive lips. Try them and see how effective they are!
9. Aftershave
How long have you been using aftershave? And did you even know that you could have made your own aftershave balm? All you need is a drop of soothing oil. Such as vitamin E or coconut and a drop of essential oil, such as peppermint or tea tree oil. Home-made balm is efficient, organic and healthy. If you need a cooling effect, we recommend you should have a few ice cubes in the freezer and wipe your irritated skin with them. Even if you have neither of the above-mentioned products at hand, a splash of cool water will sooth and hydrate your skin perfectly well.
10. Dandruff Shampoo
Dandruff shampoos provide a short-term solution. To prevent flakes you will need to use the product more and more often, because most dandruff shampoos dry out the scalp. Start with massage. Brush your hair 100 times starting from the scalp and run the brush all the way to the end of your hair. You will need a soft bristled brush for the procedure otherwise you will damage the scalp. Regular massage will stimulate the skin’s natural oils and you need them to defend the hair and scalp. Next, which is even more important, you should watch what you eat. Dandruff is all about your health and informs you that it’s time you started to consume more minerals and vitamins. Plus, change your pillow, hair products, combs and brushes. No doubt there are other factors, such as weather conditions, stress or tension level, and your skin type that influence formation of dandruff. If this is the case, we suggest you should get enough minerals, nutrients, and vitamins, sleep longer hours, stay active and regularly massage your scalp with essential oils. Find a shampoo for your hair type and use it for 2 months to see if the product is right for you. Try and keep only the most necessary hair products. Get rid of useless sprays and gels that contain chemicals and harmful ingredients.
