Yes those central European
countries mentioned above, including Slovenia, have overall a light complexion with many natural blondes. Austrians are as fair as the English.

Cannot cherry pick class photos. You get many of the local population in one picture. That's is why group pictures are the best.

Do germans look western? The only nations were I would attribute the word western are France, UK, Ireland and some minority in Iberia and Belgium.

Germans dont look very eastern european but they dont "look" western, a lot are just central/northern european cromagnids. A lot of germans just could be scandinavians,Dutch, Flemish or central-eastern europeans, specially Austrian, Czech, Western Polish, Slovaks,etc. There is a typical "germanic/teutonic" looks that could blend perfectly in most of continentan/germanic europe and southern scandinavia.

Western phenotype would be someone like Rafa Benitez... he could blend as british, Irish, french, spanish, etc because of facial features being western and not having strong component of germanic or slavic peoples.

The German archetype is exaggerated. I reckon approx. 1/3 of Germans look Scandinavian, 1/3 English, 1/3 'typical' German and a few Slavic. When you actually put people to the test with unlabelled photos they canot easily discriminate between populations from European areas (I've known a small group of Germans be guessed as Irish on this very forum).

Was speaking to a Czech woman in town last week. Could tell straight away that she wasn't Polish. Was darker than your typical Pole.

My Town has a high concentration of Polish people making my county the highest in Scotland, so have seen my fair share of Polish.

Last year I was walking down a road on a sunny day and a group of young bare-chested men came in the other direction. I thought that was strange and concluded they were probably Poles.

i think they are half way between the two. it depends on the individual. a czech can look very slavic/polish or very germanic/german

Czechs are genetically more related with the Poles. As for the physical phenotype they are Central European population similar to neighboring Hungary, the southern Germans, the Austrians. Poles have in themselves more north-eastern European element. So in Poland more is Baltids, west-baltids, nordids. In the Czech republic is more alpinids, dinarids, as in neighboring countries on south side of the Carpathian Mountains.

In this chart you will see that the Czechs are very close genetically to the Hungarians and Austrians as well as to the Slovenes and Croats.
While Poles are very closely related with the Russians and populations in the Baltic countries.
