Most people have no notion of such purity. They are constantly bombarded by sexuality and handsome people in commercials and media, thus it's no surprise they put so much value in looks. Never before has society spent so much money on cosmetics, fitness and other means to improve ones appearance.

Judging a person on their looks seems like a very childish attitude, when you are a kid you are more likely to do that because you aren't mature enough, but unfortunely that are even many adults that literally judge 99% of any person on their looks.
